THE NEXT CHAPTER: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why has the development taken so long to start?

This program is a significant investment for MZH, and it has been important to set up solid foundations for success. Establishment of the trust and our dedicated Development Committee means that we are now ready to launch a structured, multi-phase community engagementThe ‘Maurice Zeffert Home: The Next Chapter’ consultation is everyone’s opportunity to tell us what they need and want, to shape the future of MZH.

What happened to the previous masterplan?

Some very high-level site planning was undertaken 10 years ago, and this work has informed early stage thinking for the Next Chapter project. The face and nature of aged care has changed considerably since that time, and the work we are undertaking right now will be more detailed, and rigorous. MZH’s Board and Committee are fully committed to taking forward this next stage of planning.

What will be built?

No final decisions have been made yet. We are exploring:

– A contemporary mix across the care continuum, including independent living, residential aged care, dementia care, and respite.

– A village-style environment with high-quality amenities such as communal and outdoor spaces, wellness and activities areas, and culturally appropriate facilities.

Community input through the consultation will directly inform the product mix, design concepts, and amenities.

When will it be ready?

We are in early community engagement phases ahead of the concept design. Significant physical changes are a minimum of 3-4 years away, subject to funding and building approvals.

Are current residents secure in their tenure?

Yes. Residents’ security of tenure and care arrangements remain unchanged. Any future steps will be communicated clearly and well in advance, in partnership with residents and families.

Will current residents need to move out?

It is too early in the design to know what changes will be requireda key part of this engagement is to work closely with existing residents and families.

How can I have my say?

Take part in our survey about the future of Maurice Zeffert Home. The survey opens 29 March 2026 and closes 24 April 2026. You can complete the survey via our project website below or collect a copy from Maurice Zeffert Home’s front desk and return it either there or using a free Reply-Paid envelope by 24 April.

How do I express interest in a unit?

For our current accommodation offerings please call reception on 9375 4600 and they will direct you to either our admissions person for the Village or home. For future interest feel free to email info@mzh.org.au and we will touch base and keep you posted.

Who do I talk to about my concerns or if I have a question?

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Philippa Hall CEO of Maurice Zeffert on 9375 4600 or via email on phall@mzh.org.au .

Will MZH still be Jewish?

Absolutely it is our core purpose. MZH remains Western Australia’s only Jewish aged care provider and will continue to honour Jewish values and traditions while welcoming everyone.

The redevelopment aims to strengthen Jewish religious life, cultural identity, and a sense of ‘community within a community’.

How much will new places to live cost?

It is too early to confirm pricing. We are modelling options to ensure quality, value, and sustainability. Residential aged care fees remain governed by national regulations.

Independent living pricing and ongoing fees will be communicated transparently once designs, amenities, and market testing are complete.

What new recreational facilities will be built?

This is what we want to hear from you about.

Early ideas include:

  • Multipurpose activity spaces, arts and creative rooms, library and tech hub.
  • Onsite Synagogue.
  • Kosher dining and social spaces.
  • Wellness areas such as gym and therapy rooms, accessible gardens and walking paths.
  • Intergenerational areas and community rooms.

Will existing facilities be maintained?

Yes, absolutely. Where facilities may be affected by works, we will provide temporary alternatives and give advance notice of any changes.

How will you keep residents and family informed?

MZH will provide ongoing updates via:
